In 1843, the Scottish Philosopher, Thomas Carlyle, penned a warning to humanity condemning the exploitative, profit-driven mindset of 19th- century industrial capitalists, specifically attacking their relentless greed and total disregard for the welfare of the working class. In this social critique, entitled Past and Present, Carlyle coined the term Vulturism - metaphorically connecting the people and institutions that produce no genuine social value, but instead feed on the vulnerabilities, pain, and squalor of the working class, to that of the scavenging, predatory fowl.

Culture has now become a commodity - sold, repackaged, traded, rebranded; stripped of its integral values and ethnic lineage to maximize consumer palatability and thus profits. The result is an ocean of diluted products, clad in external signifiers but devoid of substance, purpose, and narrative.
